This simple belief is what led us at Tanjore Collective to create our thoughtfully designed DIY Video Courses—a format that is flexible, beginner-friendly, and deeply rooted in the traditional methods of this sacred art form.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of teaching more than 500 students through this DIY format, and the love and confidence our students gain from completing their own Tanjore painting continues to inspire us.

Why We Created a DIY Course Format
1. To Make Tanjore Painting Accessible to Everyone
We realised that while many people were genuinely drawn to Tanjore painting, not everyone could commit to the structure of an in-person class. Busy routines, shifting schedules, living in another city or country, or simply being in a different time zone often came in the way of learning. We didn’t want these limitations to decide who gets to experience this beautiful art form.
We created our DIY courses to offer a flexible, accessible way to learn, where students can paint at their own pace, revisit lessons whenever they need, and fit art gently into their lives, whether it’s early morning before the day begins or late at night when the world quiets down.
2. To Deliver a High-Quality, Guru-Guided Experience—Anywhere
Even though our courses are online, we never wanted the learning to feel distant or impersonal. Every student should feel supported, guided, and cared for—just as they would in our studio. To make this possible, we paired our detailed video lessons with direct WhatsApp and phone guidance from our Guru, so help is always just a message or call away.
We also created stage-by-stage PDF references to accompany each course, ensuring that learners have visual clarity throughout their journey. And because Tanjore painting relies on intricate techniques, we filmed the entire course using a professional five-camera setup, capturing every angle and detail.
Altogether, this creates a learning experience that feels warm, immersive, and reassuring—almost like having your teacher right beside you, even if you’re learning from miles away.

Each DIY course is built on a step-by-step progression that brings clarity to the learning experience and keeps the entire process well-structured. The Flow of the Course
Each course follows the natural order of how a Tanjore painting is traditionally created, moving gently through the essential techniques:
