How Nanditha Discovered the Joy of Learning Tanjore Painting

What began as a desire to learn the beautiful art of Tanjore painting turned into a journey filled with encouragement, creativity, and genuine happiness. Attending our studio course for the Goddess Lalitha Devi Tanjore painting twice every week, she discovered that the experience wasn't just about finishing a painting, it was about enjoying every step along the way.
For many people, joining a Tanjore painting class is about learning a traditional art form.
For Nanditha, it became much more than that.
What began as a desire to learn the beautiful art of Tanjore painting turned into a journey filled with encouragement, creativity, and genuine happiness. Attending our studio course for the Goddess Lalitha Devi Tanjore painting twice every week, she discovered that the experience wasn't just about finishing a painting, it was about enjoying every step along the way.
Falling in Love with the Process
When asked about her experience, Nanditha shared something that perfectly captures what learning traditional art should feel like:
"The whole process of learning step by step, until completion is pure happiness."
Tanjore painting is not an art form that can be rushed. Every layer has its purpose. Every technique builds on the previous one.
From preparing the board to embossing, placing the stones, applying the gold foil, and finally bringing the deity to life with colours, each stage requires patience and care.
Instead of feeling overwhelming, Nanditha found joy in watching the painting slowly come together over the weeks.
Learning in a Space That Feels Calm
One of the things that stood out most to her wasn't just the painting itself, but the environment in which she learned.
She describes the studio as:
"A very calm ambience with light music in the background which helps students to concentrate and equally enjoy the whole painting process. It's a happy place and lots of positivity."
Creative work flourishes in peaceful surroundings.
Twice every week, the studio became a place where she could slow down, focus entirely on her artwork, and enjoy the meditative nature of painting.
Sometimes, the environment matters just as much as the lesson.
Teachers Who Make the Difference
For Nanditha, the biggest part of her experience was learning from both Vibha Raj and Vani Mam.
She says:

Learning from Decades of Experience
Alongside Vibha, Nanditha also learned from Vani Mam, whose decades of experience have shaped countless Tanjore artists.
She shares:

She also admired the positivity that Vani Mam brings into every class.

For Nanditha, learning from two experienced teachers meant understanding not only the techniques of Tanjore painting but also the values of patience, encouragement, and continuous improvement.
Completing the Goddess Lalitha Devi Painting
Over the course of several weeks, attending classes twice every week, Nanditha completed her own Goddess Lalitha Devi Tanjore painting.
Like every traditional Tanjore artwork, it demanded patience, precision, and consistency.
But by the end, the finished painting represented much more than artistic skill.
It represented the journey she had enjoyed from the very first class to the final brushstroke.
