Learning Tanjore Painting at Her Own Pace: Vinaysri’s DIY Journey

Vinaysri had wanted to learn Tanjore painting for a long time, but taking that first step came with a little hesitation. Would she be able to understand the techniques through recorded lessons? She decided to find out for herself by joining the DIY Lalitha Devi Tanjore Painting Course.
Her only hesitation was whether she would actually be able to learn the art through recorded lessons.
“I was suspicious before joining whether I could understand or not…”
That question is understandable when learning a detailed traditional art form online. Tanjore painting involves several stages, from preparing the painting surface and working with gesso to creating the relief work, applying gold foil and adding the intricate details that bring the painting to life.
For Vinaysri, however, the DIY format turned out to be easier to follow than she expected.
Learning Tanjore Painting at Her Own Pace
The Lalitha Devi course is designed as a self-paced learning experience, with 27 recorded video lessons covering the different stages of creating the painting.
Vinaysri was able to go through the lessons at a pace that worked for her rather than having to keep up with a live class.
And her initial concern about understanding the recorded sessions soon disappeared.

For someone learning Tanjore painting for the first time, being able to clearly follow each stage makes a big difference. The lessons allow students to pause, revisit a technique and continue working when they are ready.
Having a Teacher to Turn to Along the Way
While the course is self-paced, Vinaysri was never left to figure out her questions completely on her own.
The DIY course includes direct WhatsApp access to the teacher, giving students a way to ask questions when they get stuck or need clarification while working on their painting.
This was an important part of Vinaysri’s experience.

For a traditional art form where small details and techniques can sometimes leave a beginner wondering whether they are doing something correctly, having someone to guide you through those moments can make the learning process much more reassuring.
Creating Her Lalitha Devi Tanjore Painting
Vinaysri chose to learn through the Lalitha Devi DIY Tanjore Painting Course, working through the lessons step by step to create her painting.
The course gives students 90 days of access from the time they receive their material kit, allowing them to work through the 27 lessons within a flexible learning period.
What began with watching a short reel eventually became an opportunity for Vinaysri to sit down and learn the art she had wanted to explore for a long time.
Her experience also highlights something important about learning Tanjore painting online: a recorded course can still feel guided when the lessons are clear and teacher support is available when you need it.
From “Can I Understand This?” to “I Understood Completely”
Looking back, the biggest change in Vinaysri’s journey was perhaps the simplest one.
She started with a little uncertainty about whether a DIY course would work for her. She ended up finding the recorded lessons clear and easy to understand, while having WhatsApp support available whenever she had questions.
What started with a reel led her to finally begin learning Tanjore painting — something she had wanted to do for a long time.
And sometimes, that first step is all it takes.
